Some Good Computer Shops In Nairobi

This is a list of the best shops to buy laptops in Nairobi Kenya. This list is not exhaustive but contains the shop that are highly recommended.

Bright Technologies.
It is Located along Kimathi street opposite The Stanley hotel, It arguably has the largest stock of laptops and computer accessories in the capital Nairobi. They have laptops with price ranging from cheap to very expensive Their laptops have different OS and you choose what you prefer. They have  very competitive prices compared to other computer shops in Nairobi.
Another plus for them is their customer service . Staff are always available to offer assistance and clarification. When planning to buy a laptop, this is the first place you should walk into.
However, this is not the place to come shop for a desktop computer, they have almost completely specialized in laptops.

PC World
You cannot talk of computers in Kenya or Nairobi without talking of PC World. This place has a big name but unfortunately not a big stock. Located along Mpaka road, Westlands, and at the Yaya Centre, PC World is known for its top of the range laptop computers. That  explains why I did not like their prices. You may visit them to window shop, but not to do the actual shopping.

Ebrahim Electronics
Located opposite Bright Technologies, is Ebrahim Electronics. This is one place you cant afford to miss. They are always ahead of the rest when it comes to latest gadgets. Unlike the others, here you will find many Apple products.  They occasionally have sales on selected items and this is the best time for you to buy yourself something from Ebrahim, because any other day is not advisable.
This is the place you should visit if you want  accessories such as flash disk. They sell straight from the manufacturers and they have working warranties

Other computer shops in Nairobi include:

Bestsell Computers Limited,
along Kamathi street :-

Arctic Computer Shop,
2nd Floor Kenwood house, Kimathi Street.

Starcomms Computer.
Norwich Union Hse, 1st Flr Mama Ngina Street

Suburbs including Westlands, Upperhill etc, have several computer shops that have not been included here. Also several websites sell computers online and you can try them out. However, most of those online sales are overcharged.

So what are the best computers / laptop shops in Nairobi. Based on the parameters we had discussed earlier, i.e, Price, Stock size and quality, here are some of the best . This list is not exhaustive but at least contains the main ones.

Bright Technologies.
Located along Kimathi street opposite New Stanley hotel, Bright Technologies computer shop has probably the largest stock of laptops and computer accessories in Nairobi. They have laptops with price ranging from low, to very high. Their laptops have different operating systems and you choose what suits you. Their prices are very competitive compared to other computer shops in Nairobi.
Another plus for them is the customer service offered. Staff are always available to offer assistance and clarification and are also sure not to be obstructive when you need to do some window shopping alone. When planning to buy a laptop, this is the first place you should step into. Their website is also quite something.
However, this is not the place to come shop for a desktop PC, they have almost completely specialized in laptops.

Ebrahim Electronics
Directly opposite Bright Technologies, is Ebrahim Electronics. This is one place you cant miss. They are always ahead of the park when it comes to latest gizmo. Unlike Bright, here you will find numerous Apple products. With about sh 100,000, you will get yourself an apple computer at Ebrahim. They occasionally have sales on selected products and this is a perfect time for you to grab yourself something from Ebrahim, because any other day is not very good.
This is one place where you should visit if you are in need of accessories such as flash disk. Theirs are straight from the manufacturers and often come with warranties.

PC World
You cannot talk of laptops in Nairobi without talking of PC World. This place has a big name but I cannot say the same of their stock, last time I checked in. Located along Mpaka road, Westlands, and at the Yaya Centre, PC World is synonymous with top of the range laptop computers. That may explain why I did not love their prices. You may visit them to window shop, but to shop, nah nah. They also have a nice website you may visit.

Other computer shops you may visit include the following:

Bestsell Computers Limited,
along Karathi street :-
reasonable prices.

Arctic Computer Shop,
2nd Floor Kenwood house, Kimathi Street.
Dont expect to find the latest here.

Starcomms Computer.
Norwich Union Hse, 1st Flr Mama Ngina Street
Not a wide range but does not hurt to pay a visit. Prices are average.

This are a few shops located mostly within the CBD of Nairobi. Other suburbs have numerous computer shops and physical window shopping is always best.

Buying a Computer/ Laptop In Nairobi.

The world has moved to the information age and Kenya is trying to catch up. With a rising number of old men and women seeking computer literacy, plus the ever growing youth population always on social media, proper knowledge on the best places to buy laptops and other computer accessories  is required. Nairobi been the capital city of Kenya has that unique position as the town with the largest population of computer shops.

The first thing you do before you buy a desktop computer or laptop, is to know what you will be using it for. Most people will use it to type notes and prepare power point presentations. Others will use their laptop mostly to surf the internet while others are more into gaming. Different computers perform different functions differently and thus research well.

After, you know what specification you need, which are, but not limited to: Ram, Processor and Hard disk memory, you go to the next step which is identifying the actual product.

Some of the laptops you will be finding in Nairobi include: Toshiba, Dell, Compaq, Hp, Mecer, Lenovo, Sony among others. Please buy a brand that has good reputation. Chinese brands tend to find their way to the Nairobi and Kenyan market.  You should also insist on a warranty wherever you buy.

It is best if you buy a laptop or any computer accessories in a shop that has a decent stock. Most of the computer/ laptop shops in Nairobi will have 2 or 3 of them. avoid such shops if you can because you will not be assured of a working warranty and quality product.

It is better when a computer shop has a working website but please DO NOT trust their website. Most of what many computer shops show on their websites are nothing you will find when you pay a physical visit to their premises. With the exception of Safaricom and maybe Orange shops, I'm yet to find a computer shop in Nairobi that has not consistently displayed wrong information on their website.

Then comes the most important thing, price. When shopping for a laptop, you should be able to approximate the price range based on your specifications. Computers with similar specifications tend to be about the same price irrespective of the brand. However, prices of similar laptops / computers may differ much from one computer shop to the other.

On this next post I show you what are the best computer shops in Nairobi, based on price, quality and available stock.
